The Dazu Rock Carvings, located in Chongqing, China, are the city’s only World Cultural Heritage Site. Renowned for their well-preserved Buddhist statues, vibrant colors, and vivid sculptural style, the carvings date back to the Tang Dynasty, with most of them constructed during the Song Dynasty. They are hailed as the last masterpiece of Chinese grotto art. Among the most stunning are the Parinirvana Scene of Shakyamuni and the Thousand-Handed and Thousand-Eyed Guanyin Bodhisattva, both of which are true artistic marvels that will leave you in awe.
