From Leo AI: Released in August 1981 and directed by Godley & Creme (Kevin Godley and Lol Creme), the music video for Duran Duran's "Girls on Film" is renowned for its erotic and controversial content, featuring scantily clad women, mud wrestling, and mild depictions of BDSM. Filmed at Shepperton Studios just days after the launch of MTV, the video was originally intended for nightclubs and pay-TV channels like the Playboy Channel. Due to its explicit nature, it was banned by the BBC and heavily censored for broadcast on MTV, existing in both a "day version" (censored) and a "night version" (uncensored). The controversy surrounding the video helped propel the song to number 5 on the UK Singles Chart and contributed to Duran Duran's rise as leaders of the New Romantic movement. The video was later released on VHS/Beta as part of the Video 45 collection, which won a Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video in 1984.
