Ongoing improvements and updates to DeoVR
Here you'll find regular updates on various improvements to DeoVR. Major changes will be covered in a standalone article, but the rest will be listed here. See the work that goes into making sure DeoVR remains the world's best platform for VR and AR content.
Recent improvements:
- Social media links - Creators are now able to add links to all their social channels so they show up on their Channel page. [April 26]
- All users can enjoy VR at top quality - Logged-in users can once again view VR content at the maximum image quality, up to 8k (up to 1080p for non-logged-in users). [April 26]
- Reducing spam and unwanted comments - We’ve introduced stop-words functionality to video comments, greatly reducing spam, unwanted links and x-rated comments. [April 26]
- Improving visibility on Google - We’ve made changes to the microdata so DeoVR content shows up better on Google search. [April 26]
Previous improvements:
- Major changes to DeoVR in terms of viewing all resolutions, plus login to view and more. See the full blog article for the full details. [April 2024]
- DeoVR now supports videos in 8K (4000p) on the Apple Vision Pro headset. Currently over 2400 VR videos play perfectly. There may be issues with older videos but the entire library is being converted to be compatible over the next few days. [April 2024]
- Launching quality assurance for all uploaded Premium videos. Videos that don't meet the quality standards, will no longer be given Premium status. Creators will be notified by mail if their video is removed from Premium. [April 2024]
- Minor: Improvements to the share tab: embed and social media options are now on a single tab. The embed code will appear in the modal window [April 2024]
- Login with code - now log in using a unique code instead of a password (April 2)
- In-app Premium purchase enabled (April 2)
- Added a toggle in global settings to enable/disable automated UI recenter (April 2)
- Login to enjoy' - users register to view DeoVR content better than 2K. This will grow our userbase (and VR overall), and help us build a better recommendation system. (Web only for now, coming to app soon) (March 15)
- 'Sorting' within channels has been updated - Top Day and Top Annual have been added (March 15)
- UI resolution improved on Quest headsets (WebXR March 15)
- Improved 'skip' using stick to work smoother (WebXR March 15)
- Improved refactoring, fewer freezes (WebXR March 15)
- Improved search: By clicking “Top,” users will automatically see the day's most watched videos. The option for Annual has been added too, so now, the options are Day, Week, Month, Annual, and Lifetime. The same improvement will be made for Channel sorting next week.
- Added “Sorting” to channels. Now you can easily spot the highlights for each channel (March 8, 2024)
- “Spatial Sound” selector added to the uploading process. Now, when uploading videos with spatial sound (.mkv files), they will be processed correctly (March 8, 2024)
- The recommendation system for guest users has been released with improved pagination (home page added). (February 28, 2024)
- Thumbnail image no longer stretches on DeoVR (WebXR, Feb 21 2024)
- Scroll down/up works while hovering over the player (WebXR, Feb 21 2024)
- Vision Pro (WebXR, Feb 21 2024):
- Controls: Select available with head movement and click via finger tap
- Quality up to 1920p enabled
- Updated: Unity, the browser and the Meta Quest SDK
- “Trending” has been renamed "My feed" for clarity
- Camera information has been added to the left panel under the description
- Minor improvements and bug fixes, including:
- Clicking on the DeoVR logo leads to the main grid
- 6DOF is now disabled by default
- Recentering UI improvements
- UI now recenters automatically upon appearing
- Battery indicator performance fixed
- Local file projection is now saved
- Abbreviation letters separated from numbers by a space
- We have added the SBS Flat 3D / Spatial Video option to Creators panel during upload, to speed up moderation and help users find SBS flat content easier (February 16, 2024)
- Channel has been moved from the left-hand menu and renamed Creators in the niches section (bottom-left) (February 15, 2024)
- Added the requirement to log in to view high-quality video content (February 15, 2024)
- Minor bug fixes (February 15, 2024):
- Bug “Flat on” turns to “off” in app
- Field mimeType is required uploading error
- Scroll bug on mobile landscape orientation
- Added borders for default thumbnail
- Fixed text edit issue at video descriptions
- Resume multipart uploading fixes
- The large carousel image (hero banner) has been removed from the main homepage of DeoVR. This makes for a cleaner homepage and gives more room for your main feed. (February 15, 2024)
- Add specific passthrough values during the upload process, or later. More info at our creating passthrough VR content tutorial. (February 6, 2024)
- "My Videos" section added (January 23, 2024)
- Sign up to DeoVR Premium via Meta (see full article). (January 12, 2024)
Previous improvements:
- You can now set your default page in the global settings page (January 2024)
- Sandbox sorting added (January 2024)
- View count now visible on the thumbnail (January 2024)
- Meta store account now connects to your DeoVR account automatically when opening the app, if you are logged in (January 2024)
- App preserves selected refresh rate between restarts on Quest 3 (January 2024)
- Higher resolutions available for Oculus link (bug fix) (January 2024)
- Names of Korean and Japanese videos now displayed correctly (January 2024)
- Videos will now pause automatically when headset is removed. (December 2023)
