"A day of unexpected challenges and breathtaking rewards on the sacred peak of Mauna Kea."

After exploring the volcanic coastline, we drove up to the Mauna Kea Visitor Information Station (VIS) at 9,200 feet. We took a break to gear up with warm jackets and prepare for the summit. However, the mountain had other plans.

On our way to the summit, our vehicle suffered an unexpected breakdown. Thanks to the swift and professional help of the Mauna Kea Rangers, we safely returned to the Visitor Center. Though we couldn't reach the very top, the island offered us something equally magical.

As the sun began to dip, we hiked up Pu'u Kalepeamoa (Sunset Hill) right next to the visitor center. Standing above the clouds, we witnessed one of the most spectacular sunsets on Earth—a sea of clouds glowing in hues of gold and crimson.

The journey didn't end with the sun. As darkness fell, the sky transformed into a canvas of infinite stars. We ended our first day on the Big Island under the mesmerizing Milky Way, feeling the true silence of the universe.

Experience the thrill, the relief, and the serenity in immersive 8K VR.
