Cinematic Glimpses of Manali in January & the 2019 Winter Carnival
(January 2nd – 6th)

Every January, the picturesque town of Manali in Himachal Pradesh turns into a vibrant hub of culture, snow, and celebration with the annual Winter Carnival. First started in 1977 to showcase the traditions and lifestyle of the region, this festival has grown immensely over the years—offering visitors a unique mix of entertainment, adventure, and heritage.

During the five-day event in 2019, Manali came alive with colorful festivities. The snow-covered slopes attracted thrill-seekers for skiing and snowboarding, while cultural performances filled the streets with energy. One of the carnival's main attractions is the "Winter Queen" and "Mr. Manali" contest, a glamorous event celebrating local talent and personality.

A grand procession begins at the Hadimba Devi Temple, weaving its way down through Manali’s bustling Mall Road, which transforms into a lively fairground. Folk dances, street plays, music, and food stalls line the road, offering something for everyone to enjoy.

Beyond the carnival, visitors also get the chance to explore iconic local spots like the Manu Temple, Jagatsukh, Vashisht Hot Springs, the Manacle Gompa, and of course, the Hadimba Temple. Whether you're drawn by the culture, snow sports, or scenic beauty—Manali in January offers a cinematic experience like no other.
