Step-by-step guide to overlaying floating objects onto your VR180 video
You can see what this looks like in the Pablo Escobar video mentioned above:
And follow the VR tutorial in your VR headset (see below for text and screenshots):
Step 1. Set up your project
First, open Adobe Premiere Pro and load your project. In this example, we are using an 8K stereoscopic 180-degree projection.
Step 2. Choose your overlay
Select the object you want to overlay. This can be a photo, video, text, or logo. Drag and drop it into your project panel.
Step 3. Apply the VR Plane to Sphere Effect
To ensure your media integrates properly into the VR environment, you'll need to use a specific video effect. Navigate to the "Effects" panel, select "Immersive Video," and find the effect called "VR Plane to Sphere."
Drag this effect onto your overlay clip.
Step 4. Configure VR Properties
In the Effect Controls panel, find the VR Properties section of the VR Plane to Sphere effect. Set the Frame Layout to "Stereoscopic Side by Side" and the Field of View to 180 degrees.
Step 5. Adjust Your Overlay
Use the effect controls to adjust the size, position, and appearance of your overlay:
- Scale: Make it smaller or larger
- Tilt: Adjust vertical positioning
- Pan Offset: Move it left or right
- Rotation: Rotate the overlay as needed
Step 6: Finalize Your Placement
Review the placement to ensure it looks good within the VR environment. Adjust as necessary to fit the composition of your video. This technique works particularly well when there are clear spaces within your projection where the media won't obstruct important visual elements.
