Its history can be traced back to the Zhengde period of the Ming Dynasty. It was originally named "Lotus Nunnery" and was renamed Sunlight Rock Temple after being rebuilt in 1586 (the 14th year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty). After several renovations and expansions, the temple now covers an area of more than 2,800 square meters, with a building area of more than 2,000 square meters. The architectural complex in the temple is small and exquisite, following the trend of the mountain, and the halls are carved out of rocks, integrating nature and Buddhist concepts. The main hall, the Yuantong Baodian, is a stone chamber formed by hollowing out the huge rock on the top of the mountain and adding stone beams and columns. It faces east, towards the direction of the rising sun. In 1936, Master Hong Yi once practiced meditation in the east wing of the temple, compiled many Buddhist works, and inscribed the plaque "Sunlight Courtyard".
