Basic Overview
The glacial pothole relics in Dahu Township, Minhou County, Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, are important geological remains left by Quaternary glacial activities. These glacial potholes are mainly distributed on the rocks of stream beds, with a large number and diverse forms. They are rare glacial landforms in the coastal areas of southeastern China, and have significant scientific value for studying paleoclimate and paleogeographic changes.
Formation and Characteristics
Glacial potholes are bowl-shaped depressions formed by the strong impact and grinding of bedrock by glacial meltwater carrying ice debris, rock debris and other materials during flow. The glacial potholes in Dahu Township are mostly round or oval, with diameters ranging from tens of centimeters to several meters. Some of them still retain clear scratches and grooves, which are direct evidence of glacial action.
