The Big Boss (Chinese: 唐山大兄), originally released in the United States as Fists of Fury, is a 1971 Hong Kong martial arts film that served as Bruce Lee's first major leading role. Directed by Lo Wei and Wu Chia-hsiang, the film tells the story of Cheng Chao-an, a young Chinese immigrant working in an ice factory in Thailand who has sworn an oath of non-violence to his mother.
The plot thickens when Cheng discovers the factory is a front for a heroin-smuggling ring led by the titular "Big Boss," Hsiao Mi. After his family members are murdered for discovering the operation and his protective jade amulet is broken, Cheng unleashes his martial arts skills to exact revenge. The film was a massive commercial success, grossing nearly US$50 million worldwide against a budget of only $100,000, making it the highest-grossing Hong Kong film at the time and launching Bruce Lee to international stardom.
