The long-standing oldest photographed tornado, claimed by the National Geographic to be taken in South Dakota on August 28th, 1884 is likely a fake combining multiple photographs to create the image that has long been championed. It's no longer believed to be the true oldest image of a twister. A tornado that struck Garnett, Kansas several months earlier on April 26, 1884 is now believed to be the oldest photographed tornado. Two other impressive early photographs of tornadoes were taken Oklahoma City on May 12th, 1896. But the first filmed tornado occurred in Cuba, captured on film in 1933. In the United States, the first known filmed tornado was captured in 1951 in Corn, Oklahoma . It was an F3 and destroyed dozens of buildings, and killed numerous farm animals.
