This festival has a history of more than 430 years, and features beautiful floats with flickering flames, brave mikoshi that have even set a world record for the number of them, deer dance and kagura gongenmai that have been passed down since ancient times, and the elegant hanamaki bayashi dance. The traditional culture of Hanamaki is in full bloom everywhere.The number of mikoshi participating in the Hanamaki Festival is one of the highest in Japan, and each year over 100 mikoshi come together and shake the streets of Hanamaki. On September 12, 2015, at the Hanamaki Festival, a challenge was held to get certified as a Guinness World Record for ``Largest display of Mikoshi at the same venue.'' A total of 114 mikoshi (portable shrines) came together, exceeding the standard record of 100, and was recognized as a Guinness World Record.On this day alone, more than 50 portable shrines appeared.
