Once famous for its workshops, mechanic shops, printing businesses, electronic and all kind of manufacturing micro-shops during the 70 and 80's South Korean gold era of economic boom, Euljiro like many of the downtown neighborhoods declined during the 90's and 00's. Since a few years it's booming again, due to a wave of new inhabitants, artists, entrepreneurs, bars and restaurants owners leading the "hipjiro" trend, a new retro inspired gentrification and to a wave of demolition/ construction of new buldings in the now very pressured Seoul downtown real estate market. This video is mostly dedicated to the old vibes of Euljiro, those streets filled with an endless line of small mechanic shops, printing companies, incredible single-products retails shops and so on.. At the end of the video I bring you discover the Sewoon Arcade, an iconic shopping center located in the middle of Euljiro, with its first floor still dedicated to its old electronic shops past when the second floor is already the center of the gentrification wave and trendy bars and coffee shops have already replaced the old and now gone businesses.
