Step into the vivid coastal landscapes of Hawai‘i’s Kona Coast in full immersive detail. This 8K 3D 360° VR video series transports you to three breathtaking shoreline locations on the Big Island:
🌊 Old Kona Airport
🌴 Kakapa Bay
🐬 Kealakekua Bay
🪨 Geology:
These coastlines were shaped by ancient lava flows from Hualālai, one of the island’s major shield volcanoes. Over centuries, the cooled lava rock has been weathered by the ocean, creating jagged tidepools and natural terraces where marine life thrives just beneath the surface.
📜 History:
– Kealakekua Bay is a wahi pana (sacred place) in Hawaiian tradition and the site where British explorer Captain James Cook first came ashore—and where he was killed in 1779 following a clash with local chiefs after attempting to take a high chief hostage. His body was ritually dismembered in keeping with Hawaiian mortuary customs.
– Old Kona Airport was originally a WWII-era landing strip and is now a reclaimed coastal preserve for recreation and nature.
– Kakapa Bay is linked to ancient fishing traditions and features some of the coast’s most untouched lava rock formations.
🎥 Shot in stereoscopic VR using the Insta360 Pro2 and recorded with ambisonic spatial audio via the Zoom H3-VR, this experience is designed for full environmental immersion.
🎧 Best experienced with a VR headset and headphones to enjoy the full depth of 3D visuals and spatial sound.
