The extraordinary garden:
The Extraordinary Garden was laid out in an old disused granite quarry, the Misery quarry in Chantenay, whose 25-metre high cliffs offer a very beautiful view of the Loire. From the top of the latter, springs an impressive waterfall from which emanates a light mist ensuring tree ferns, banana trees, papyrus, lotus and other gunneras a saving humidity. The establishment of these exotic species was possible thanks to the proximity of the cliffs facing south which protect from the cold winds and restore at night the heat stored during the day, thus ensuring a temperature 4°C higher than in the surroundings. It is the desire to try to recreate the magical universe of Jules Verne's Extraordinary Voyages, whose birthplace is located nearby, which also guided the choice of these lush plants.
The current garden corresponds to the first phase of work, the development will continue until the completion of the Heron Tree.
The Extraordinary Garden receives the Grand Prix des Victoires Nationales du Paysage 2020 for its landscaping within this former quarry.
