Located on a small Han river island right between Hapjeong and Dangsan the Seonyudo Park used to be a sewage treatment plant for 23 years. The plant was closed down in 2000 and reopened 2 years later as a public park.
Part of the plant infrastructure was kept and used to build floating gardens and pathways. With time passing by the vegetation covered the old cement infrastructure and the central area now has a very unique and post industrial dystopian vibe. The island is also home to a small greenhouse and a coffee shop.
Being a favorite place for dating among young couples I won't recommend it on weekends if you're trying to overcome a breakup ;-) except for that the island is usually very quiet and will allow you a break from the busy city life when needed.
