🇬🇧 English La Catrina is an iconic Day of the Dead figure, created by José Guadalupe Posada as a social critique. She portrays death with elegance, reminding us that we are all equal in the end. Muralist Diego Rivera, husband of Frida Kahlo, popularized her in his work Dream of a Sunday Afternoon in the Alameda Central, where she appears beside Frida. Though Frida didn’t create La Catrina, her aesthetic—flowers, braids, traditional dresses, and skull motifs—has merged with the figure. Today, the “Frida Catrina” stands as a symbol of Mexican art, identity, and resilience.
