১৮৬২ সালের ১৫ নভেম্বর কলকাতার শিয়ালদহ থেকে কুষ্টিয়ার জগতি পর্যন্ত ৫৩.১১ কিলোমিটার দীর্ঘ ব্রডগেজ রেললাইন চালুর মাধ্যমে এই স্টেশনের যাত্রা শুরু হয়। তৎকালীন ইস্টার্ন বেঙ্গল রেলওয়ে এটি নির্মাণ করেছিল মূলত নীলকরদের পণ্য আনা-নেওয়ার জন্য।
