This 8K VR180 documentary is part of the Within Reach portrait series. You sit face-to-face with media professional and fact-checker Wei Xing, as he reflects on his path from an early encounter with newspapers, to years in journalism and changing media forms, and later to launching the fact-checking project Youju and compiling the Fact-Checking Handbook.
From China Youth Daily in a school office, to a copy of Southern Weekly used as wrapping paper; from the international news desk at Oriental Morning Post, to The Paper, Sixth Tone, and Pear Video; from the “different ways of telling the same story” opened up by the internet, to new questions about truth, evidence, and critical thinking in the age of AI, Wei Xing describes himself simply as “someone who works with information.”
It is a face-to-face conversation about where information comes from, how facts can be verified, and how one person has tried to remain careful, patient, and open in an increasingly complex media environment. Chinese and English subtitles included.
