Located on the west coast of the Oga Peninsula in Akita Prefecture, Kankane-do (Kankane Cave) is a natural sea cave formed over a long period by the rough waves of the Sea of Japan eroding reddish-brown rhyolite (tuff layers).
It is one of the valuable geological heritage sites that make up the Oga Peninsula-Ogata Geopark.
