The Four Ballades for solo piano, composed between 2017 and 2021, could be considered, by complexity and length, the magnum opus of Erkoreka’s piano output. The last piece of the cycle, the Ballade No. 4, composed in 2021, fixes its gaze on French spectral music, a movement and way of thinking about sound that did not have a direct impact on Erkoreka’s style but for which he feels great admiration, especially in the artistic achievements of Gérard Grisey, to whose memory the ballade is dedicated.
