Hitoichi Bon Odori is counted as one of the three major Bon Odori in Akita Prefecture, and is held every year for three days from August 18th to 20th at Ichiichi Shopping District. It has a long history, and is said to have taken on its current form in 1662, when a post station and a Daiden place were established in Hachirogata town.
There used to be many different types of dances, but as time passed, it ceased to be a ``dance to watch'' and became more popular as a ``dance to dance.'' Nowadays, fast-paced dances have become mainstream. The Dendenzuku Odori and Kitasaka Odori, which were introduced from the capital, are popular. Three elegant Sankatsu dances have been passed down from generation to generation.
