Constructed during the 1850s, the Mt. Washington Auto Road climbs from Route 16 in Pinkham Notch in New Hampshire to the highest peak in the Northeast at 6288 feet. The oldest man-made tourist attraction in the United States, which opened on August 8, 1861, to the summit, has been proudly family-owned and operated since 1906.
