Welcome to the historical centre of Košice, the largest urban preservation area in Slovakia, with the first written mention dating back to 1230, where present-day Košice is mentioned as Villa Cassa.
Historical core of Košice represents the biggest reservoir of historical monuments in Slovakia. In terms of art & history, the most valuable buildings are situated around the original Middle Age square.
The significant history of Kosice dates from the high middle ages, from which period its imposing cathedral dates. In these times, Kosice was arguably the entire region’s most important centre outside of Budapest. It served as a key crossroads for traders from Italy, Germany and Holland as well as those of more eastern European cultures.
