The Nishang Dance (霓裳舞), also known as the Dance of the Rainbow and Feathered Robes, is one of the most iconic court dances of China’s Tang Dynasty (618–907 CE). Celebrated for its ethereal beauty and intricate choreography, it embodies the pinnacle of Tang cultural sophistication, blending poetry, music, and movement into a harmonious spectacle. Legend attributes its creation to Emperor Xuanzong, who was inspired by a celestial vision described in Daoist mythology, later refined by his beloved consort Yang Yuhuan (Yang Guifei), a revered dancer and cultural icon.
