BEHAVIOR
Emperor scorpions typically live in groups of 12 or more and are burrow dwellers. Under leaves or other forest detritus, they frequently find refuge. Emperor scorpions are often shy by nature and prefer to flee over combat when threatened, despite their frightening appearance.

Emperor scorpions have adapted to a nocturnal lifestyle and are most active at night. Despite having limited eyesight, pectines, a particular sensory structure found behind the limbs of these animals, allow them to locate prey and traverse their environment in the dark.

These gigantic, glossy, black scorpions have two enormous pincers that they utilize to hunt animals and rip apart food. Additionally, they have long, curled tails that arch over their backs and are equipped with deadly stingers at the tip. Adult scorpions are more likely to rely on their pincers and utilize their stingers only to defend themselves, unlike baby scorpions who use them to subdue prey. Emperor scorpions primarily consume termites in the woodlands where they reside. To invertebrates, small mice, and even lizards, their sting may be fatal, but not to humans. Their venom is only as lethal to humans as a bee sting. Their pincers are far more painful when you are pinched.
