Leng Ern Jee was founded during the Japanese Occupation of Singapore between 1942 and 1945. Their two main deities Lu Chun Yang Shi Zun and Ji Gong Huo Fo were invited from Bahau, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia for the new shrine established on 2nd floor of a shophouse along Circular Road. In 1951, a permanent home to accommodate the increased number of members was found at Jalan Rajah, and was officially named Leng Ern Jee.
Lee Ern Jee became a De Jiao Hui in the early 1960s, and was grouped together with Chee Hwan Kog and Chee Hoon Kog under the Ji group. Since the beginning, volunteers from Chee Hoon Kog have been helping out at Leng Ern Jee. When Chee Hoon Kog stopped its operation in early 1960s, some of its volunteers went over to Leng Ern Jee, while the rest went to Chee Hwan Kog. When Chee Hoon Kog was re-established in 1982, the three continue to collaborate in organizing major events and sharing of volunteers.
In 1968 a Traditional Chinese Medicine clinic was setup in the temple to provide free medical services. Due to space constraint, Leng Ern Jee was rebuilt on the same site in 1987.
Summary of De Jiao.
