Perseus’ Lament is an acousmatic work based on NASA's data sonification of the supermassive black hole in Perseus galaxy cluster. Using special software, the original sound, about 30 seconds long, was extended 25-fold, for a total composition length of about 12 minutes. This process, a kind of "Slow Mo" for sound, preserves all the dynamic and timbral complexity of the original sound, and enhances its harmonic structure. The result is a strangely beautiful, ever changing soundscape, sometimes resembling an organ, sometimes human voices. The video features 25 high-resolution images from the Perseus galaxy cluster.
