ART PIECE 1
Bird sculpture at United Overseas Bank (UOB) Plaza
Most Singaporeans have probably seen or taken a picture with the fat, squat, bronze Bird sculpture at UOB Plaza near Raffles Place, along the Singapore River. It was inaugurated in 1990, and represents the joy of living and the power of optimism. Fun fact: It has also been used for shoots for Indian movies. Over at the St Regis Hotel, his Dancing Nude Couple stands outside the John Jacob Ballroom on Level 1U, while the Reclining Woman piece sits at the hotel's entrance. (quote from Lee Jian Xuan)
ART PIECE 2
Salvador Dali’s surreal 1985 "Homage to Newton" is located in the atrium of the Singapore’s UOB Plaza on Chulia Street. It is one of several public art exhibits found around Singapore. The bronze figure has an open torso with a heart suspended in it to indicate 'open-heartedness'. The head of the figure is opened to represent an 'open-mind'. Title devised by cataloguer. (quote from: Singapore Tourism Board)
ART PIECE 3
The sculpture was sculpted with stainless steel by Tan Wee Lit. The sculpture is of a toy kit, featuring several items, including a briefcase, a stroller and a bicycle, and is meant to represent the "work-life balance that Singaporeans strive for". The sculpture is intentionally left incomplete, to represent that "people's vitality and aspirations are the most essential factors that make life complete". The sculpture won the CDL Singapore Sculpture Award in 2007 and was temporarily displayed at the Singapore Art Museum. The sculpture was moved to Raffles Place Park in 2013
