🇸🇮 Slovenia’s Underground Wonders & Soča Canyon | Caves, Rafting & Predjama Castle
🇸🇮 Discover Slovenia from its emerald rivers to its enormous underground world. This journey begins in the spectacular Great Soča Gorge, carved by the famous turquoise-green Soča River, followed by a rafting trip through the Soča Valley and its Alpine scenery. The Soča is regarded as one of Europe’s most beautiful rivers and is especially famous for its intense emerald colour, rocky gorges, pools and rapids. 🏞️🛶
🕳️ Then we head underground to explore some of the most impressive caves of the Karst region. Grotta Gigante, near Trieste, gives a first taste of the enormous scale of this landscape before we continue to Slovenia’s extraordinary Škocjan Caves. Here the Reka River disappears beneath the surface and flows through a gigantic subterranean canyon. Škocjan has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986, and its underground canyon reaches more than 140 metres in height in places. 🌊⛰️
🚂 We also visit Postojna Cave, a vast 24-kilometre cave system famous for its spectacular formations and unusual underground railway. Finally, the journey takes us to Predjama Castle – an extraordinary medieval fortress built directly into a 123-metre-high cliff. Standing here for more than 800 years, it is recognised as the world’s largest cave castle. 🏰
🌍 Emerald water, rafting, immense underground canyons, caves and a castle hidden inside a mountain – a journey through some of the most spectacular landscapes of Slovenia and the Karst region.
