The Solomon Tower in Visegrád is one of Hungary’s most remarkable medieval monuments.
It’s part of the Lower Castle (Alsóvár) and stands proudly above the Danube River, offering stunning views of the surrounding hills and water.

Built in the 13th century, the tower was originally a defensive structure, later serving as a royal residence and stronghold. Its massive stone walls — some up to 8 meters thick — tell stories of Hungary’s royal and military past.

According to legend, King Solomon was imprisoned here after losing his throne, though historians say this is more myth than fact.

Today, the tower operates as part of the Visegrád Castle Museum, featuring exhibitions that showcase the history of Visegrád from prehistoric times through the Middle Ages and beyond. Inside, you can see historical artifacts, medieval weapons, and reconstructions of life in a royal fortress.
