Built in 1420 during the Yongle reign of the Ming Dynasty, the Temple of Heaven is an imperial sacrificial complex where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties worshipped heaven and prayed for bumper grain harvests.
It was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1998. Designed around the ancient concept of "round heaven and square earth", its core structures include the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, the Circular Mound Altar,
