A spectacular loop around Sassolungo / Langkofel in the Italian Dolomites, combining hiking, a short via ferrata and one of the strangest cable cars in the Alps.

We start at Passo Sella, ride the famous tiny two-person “coffin” cable cars towards Forcella del Sassolungo, and climb the Via Ferrata Furcela de Saslonch. From the pass near Rifugio Toni Demetz, the route descends through the dramatic rocky interior of the massif towards Rifugio Vicenza, before continuing around Sassolungo with views over Seiser Alm / Alpe di Siusi and back towards Passo Sella.

A classic Dolomites landscape: huge limestone walls, narrow mountain passes, green alpine meadows and one very unusual historic lift.
