In the 1950s, at the height of the Cold War, the extensive development of civil defense infrastructure began in our country as well. Massive reinforced-concrete shelters, known as BGS bunkers, were constructed beneath strategically important factories, industrial plants, and other key facilities. These structures were designed to withstand even a direct hit from a 250-kilogram bomb. Each bunker was equipped with its own mechanical systems, ventilation, power supply, and medical equipment, enabling it to function independently during emergencies.
