Introduction to Zhaojia Castle (Zhangpu)
Zhaojia Castle is located in Huxi She Ethnic Township, Zhangpu County, Fujian Province. Built by the descendants of the Song Dynasty imperial Zhao family in the Ming Dynasty, it is known as "the Little Bianjing in Southern Fujian". Built against the mountains, its layout imitates Bianjing, the capital of the Northern Song Dynasty, consisting of an inner city, an outer city and Wanbi Tower, integrating military defense and residential functions.
The castle preserves many architectural relics with Song Dynasty styles, such as inscriptions by Mi Fu, a calligrapher of the Song Dynasty, and the architectural outline imitating the Meridian Gate of Bianjing. It also houses genealogy and cultural relics of the Zhao family, witnessing the life trajectory of the imperial descendants. As an important physical relic for studying the architectural style of the Song Dynasty and the migration history of the Zhao family, Zhaojia Castle has high historical and cultural value.
