From Leo AI: The official music video for Blondie's "Rapture" is a one-take scene set in Manhattan's East Village, featuring lead singer Debbie Harry dancing through a street party. It holds the historic distinction of being the first rap video ever broadcast on MTV when it premiered on Solid Gold in January 1981.
The video features a notable cast of downtown NYC figures:
Jean-Michel Basquiat appears as the DJ, stepping in as a last-minute replacement for Grandmaster Flash, who failed to show up.
William Barnes plays the central "Man from Mars" or "voodoo god" character in a white suit and top hat, and also choreographed the piece.
Fab 5 Freddy and graffiti artist Lee Quiñones make cameo appearances, capturing the collision of hip-hop and art scenes of the era.
