Mountains, fijords and volcanic geology - Fjarðabyggð is a municipality in the east of Iceland that encompasses several fjords and small villages. It was founded in 1998 and consists of the villages of Eskifjörður, Neskaupstaður, Reyðarfjörður, Fáskrúðsfjörður, Mjóifjörður and Stöðvarfjörður. The region is known for its breathtaking nature, fishing and industry, especially the aluminum sector. Fjarðabyggð offers a mixture of natural beauty, cultural experiences and economic importance, making it an interesting destination for both tourists and residents.
