The history of Baxi Tower dates back to the Song Dynasty (960-1279). Initially, it was an important auxiliary structure of the ancient city wall of Tingzhou, serving both defensive and observation purposes, and was a key part of the ancient Tingzhou's military defense system. The "Baxi" (Eight Blessings) in its name originates from the Hakka folk custom of "the Eight Blessings in Life" in Tingzhou, which refers to eight important life events of the Hakka people: the birth of a child, marriage, house-moving, admission to a school, birthday celebration for the elderly, obtaining a treasure, joining the military, and engaging in business. These eight scenarios cover the key milestones in a Hakka person's life. The name of the tower not only embodies the aspiration for a better life but also serves as a concrete carrier of Hakka folk culture.
