Puente Zubizuri at Night | Santiago Calatrava's Architectural Jewel in Bilbao

The Puente Zubizuri (Basque for "White Bridge") is one of Bilbao's most recognizable pedestrian bridges and a defining piece of modern architecture in the Basque Country. Designed by the world-renowned architect Santiago Calatrava, it was inaugurated in 1997, the same year as the nearby Guggenheim Museum. Officially named the Puente del Campo de Volantín, the bridge spans the Nervión River, connecting the Campo de Volantín and Uribitarte neighborhoods. Its unique design features an elegantly curved, inclined steel arch from which the walking platform is suspended by slender cables. This 360° nighttime view showcases the bridge's spectacular illumination. It emphasizes the contrast between the glowing white steel and the dark of the night, making the structure appear to "float" above the river. One can also see the original glass floor panels, which, while aesthetically pleasing, became controversial due to slipperiness in rainy Bilbao and were later partially covered by non-slip mats to ensure pedestrian safety. The bridge is a vital link for pedestrians navigating between the historical city center and the modern riverfront development, including the Guggenheim Museum. 📍 Location: Puente Zubizuri, Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain 🎥 Format: 360° View (Spherical) #zubizuri #puentezubizuri #bilbao #bilbaocity #santiagocalatrava #calatrava #calatravaarchitecture #architecture #architecturephotography #nightphotography #urbanphotography #spaintravel #visitbilbao #paisvasco #in
