Stop 5: Chilhowee Group at Kings Gap Road on Duggar Mountain
The Cambrian Chilhowee Group at Duggar Mountain is internally thrust faulted and the basal thrust fault is folded. Cooling ages range from 353-307 Ma, which predates deformation in the rest of the Valley and Ridge, which contains Pennsylvanian rocks that would have been being actively deposited while these rocks were uplifted and cooled.
