Mototaki Subsurface Waterfall in Nikaho City, Akita , JAPAN
This waterfall is formed by spring water that has seeped into Mount Chokai over a long period and spills out from the cliff face at the edge of a lava flow.
It has a drop of approximately 5 meters and a width of about 30 meters, with the spring water maintaining a temperature of roughly 10°C year-round.
In summer, the temperature difference between the cold spring water and the surrounding air creates mist around the falls; when sunlight filters through the trees and pierces this river mist, a magical display of light beams can be seen.
