The Sendai Tanabata Festival is famous nationwide and is counted among the three major festivals of the Tohoku region.
This event offers a unique nighttime experience set against the backdrop of the Sendai Castle ruins—home to the famous equestrian statue of Date Masamune. The entire site is illuminated, and projection mapping is displayed on structures such as the *torii* gate and the stone walls.
Japanese illuminations are characterized by a contrast between the darkness of the night and soft, gentle light; consequently, visitors from overseas might find the overall atmosphere somewhat dim.
