Japan Miyagi Shiroishi Castle

Shiraishi Castle was a Japanese castle located in Shiraishi City, Miyagi Prefecture. It was also known as Masuoka Castle. The castle is a designated historical site of Shiraishi City. It is said to have been the residence of the Shiraishi clan during the medieval period. The castle changed hands several times during the late Sengoku period, and in the Edo period it became the castle of the Katakura clan, vassals of the Sendai Domain. Along with Yatsushiro Castle in Kyushu, it was exempt from the Edo Shogunate's "one castle per province" policy and survived until the Meiji Restoration.
