Bilbao’s La Salve Bridge | Where Art, History & Architecture Meet

The Puente La Salve (La Salve Bridge) is one of the most iconic architectural landmarks in Bilbao, Basque Country. Opened in 1972, this cable-stayed bridge spans the Ría de Bilbao river at a height of over 23 meters. The bridge gained international acclaim in the late 1990s when the world-famous Guggenheim Museum Bilbao was built directly adjacent to and around its structure. Renowned architect Frank Gehry cleverly integrated the bridge's piers and roadway into the titanium-clad silhouette of the museum complex. Another striking feature is the vibrant red installation called "Arcos Rojos" (Red Arches), designed by French artist Daniel Buren. Added to the main pylon in 2007 to commemorate the Guggenheim's 10th anniversary, it creates a bold color contrast against the green steel of the bridge deck and the metallic curves of the museum. 📍 Location: La Salve Bridge / Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain #bilbao #bilbaocity #guggenheimbilbao #puentelasalve #visitthebasquecounty #paisvasco #basquecounty #spaintravel #architecturalphotography #modernarchitecture #danielburen #arcosrojos #insta360 #insta360x5 #shotoninsta360 #travelspain
