AMTK164, wearing Amtrak’s classic Phase IV paint scheme, passes eastbound on Amtrak Sunset Limited No. 2 near Casa Grande, Arizona.

This wasn’t a chance encounter. The locomotive was first identified overnight on the Heritage Units app at Indio, California, then tracked across the desert using a combination of Heritage Units reports and Amtrak’s live train tracker before a successful morning intercept in Arizona.
