The music video for Malcolm McLaren's 1983 hit "Double Dutch" showcases the dynamic interplay between McLaren’s performance and the athletic rope-skipping of teenage girls from the American Double Dutch League.
"Double Dutch" reached number 3 on the UK Singles Chart, becoming McLaren’s highest-charting single. The track samples the South African Boyoyo Boys’ 1975 song "Puleng", leading to a plagiarism lawsuit. Despite controversy, the song and video are praised for spotlighting Black youth culture and athleticism. The video was also featured in Martin Scorsese’s 2013 film The Wolf of Wall Street, reaffirming its lasting cultural resonance. Filmed in a school gymnasium in New York City, the video highlights the precision, rhythm, and energy of competitive double Dutch jump rope, synchronized with the song’s infectious beat. It was the second single from McLaren’s debut album Duck Rock.
