The Port of Komárno is an important river port located on the Danube River, right at the border between Slovakia and Hungary. It plays a key role in transport, shipbuilding, and tourism, and it’s one of the most interesting industrial and historical spots in southern Slovakia. 🚢 About the Port The port has a long history — shipbuilding and trade in Komárno date back to the 19th century. Today, it’s still an active cargo and ship-repair port, but also partly open to visitors who enjoy exploring the riverfront. You can often see large cargo ships, tugboats, and river cruise ships passing through. Near the port, there’s also a small marina for private boats and yachts. 🏭 What You Can See The shipyard area (Komárno Shipyard / Slovenské lodenice Komárno), once one of the largest in Central Europe. Old cranes, docks, and industrial buildings that show the town’s maritime history. A walkway along the Danube, perfect for watching ships or taking photos at sunset. 📍 Location The port lies next to Alžbetin ostrov (Elizabeth Island) and is within walking distance from the city center. You can reach it easily by car, bike, or on foot from Námestie Európy (Europe Square).
