Kyoto: Japanese garden at Hogonin Temple in Arashiyama, JAPAN
The Japanese garden at Hogonin Temple in Arashiyama.
The garden was designed by Zen monk Sakugen Shūryō Zenji during the Muromachi period.
It is a strolling garden that skillfully incorporates Arashiyama as borrowed scenery, and features large rocks such as "Shishiiwa" (Lion Rock). It is also featured in the "Miyako Rinsen Meishō Zue" (Illustrated Guide to Famous Gardens and Parks of Kyoto), a compilation of famous gardens and scenic spots in Kyoto during the Edo period.
