📜 History of the Trail & Area:
Hidden away in Franklin County, Rattlesnake Falls sits just a stone's throw away from the legendary Ozark Highlands Trail, a premier 270-mile backpacking route established across the Boston Mountains. The rugged landscape here was carved over the years as seasonal mountain runoff sliced through layers of regional sandstone and shale. While the name might sound intimidating, hikers rarely spot the namesake timber rattlesnakes here; local lore suggests the name comes from either early homesteader encounters or the unique way the split water stream resembles a serpent's fangs during high-flow seasons.
