As you reach the top of the approach to the temple, you will be greeted by the Niomon Gate, Nishimon Gate, and three-story pagoda (all of which are Important Cultural Properties) with Mount Otowa in Higashiyama in the background.
The main hall (National Treasure) is built on a cliff, with cherry blossoms and fresh greenery in the spring, and autumn leaves in the fall, and is a national treasure, with a spectacular view of the city. There are a total of 15 buildings and pagodas (all of which are Important Cultural Properties).
