Basilica in Rankweil, Vorarlberg - Austria. 3D 180VR 8K / Slideshow.
The quaint market town of Rankweil is dominated by this fairytale-esque basilica perched on a hill at its centre. This formidable building on the Liebfrauenberg is a landmark in the truest sense, visible from all over the valley. It’s a fortified castle, built in a style typical of early Christian architecture in the old Roman region of Raetia. The basilica was formerly a pilgrimage destination, housing objects including the “Miraculous Image of Our Lady” and the Stone of St. Fridolin.
The Loreto Chapel, which is also called the Chapel of Grace, was rebuilt in 1757. The miraculous image, a carved figure of Mary with child by the sculptor Johannes Rueland, dates from 1470.
